Many times I get asked would the American version Houdaille fit on my Ferrari or Maserati ? The answer is yes but it will not perform the same. If you are familiar, early Ford products such as the Ford Model A use a Houdaille shock. I am unsure of the relationship between the versions but I do know that although they are the same concept they are different internally. I have restored the American version and found that the European version of the Houdaille has more dampening capacity than the American version. Also, the European version was designed for racing and as a result it is much more complex and receptive to quick changes in road conditions than the American version. The body style of the shock should tell you whether you have the American or European version of the Houdaille shock.
